Claudia Schiffer Goes Black…As In Race…With An Afro! “Action Figure” Or Simply Bad Move?

by admin on 06/03/2010

The fashion world has hit the fan because of a photo shoot back in 2007 where Claudia Schiffer went black…as in black woman…covered in makeup made for women of darker skin to even include an afro.  What the huh??  Were there not enough black women in the world for Karl Lagerfeld to choose from, or is it that the black women weren’t what they were “looking” for in the industry.  There has always been a fall off as far as black models are concerned in the fashion industry, but this is a low for the fashion world.

The photo below is one that as taken by Karl Lagerfeld and used by Stern Fotografie for a 60th anniversary, however were originally for  a Don Perignon ad.  See the black woman Claudia Schiffer?

So what are your thoughts? Don’t think because a rep for Claudia Schiffer has already stated that the image wasn’t meant in harm but only so that Claudia could portray action figures. Uhhh…what action figure has an afro and is a black/African/African American woman?  Action figure who?

Anyway, the rep says not to take the photos out of context as they are Lagerfeld’s favorite of the model.  Really?  Wonder how it felt to be in black skin for a day for Claudia?  Obviously, most black women would find this offensive because it is a shame that in 2007 the fashion world was still puttin on…suga!  Blaxploitation if you didn’t get the suga part.
